Offering Our Own Widow’s Mite During This Covid-19 Pandemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the world, restricting movements, crippling businesses and causing untold hardship, we at the Bernadette Eyisi Foundation (BEF) are also trying to rise up to the challenge by providing some funding to help meet the immediate needs of some people in our little area of influence.

For instance, on the 5th of April, 2020, a sum of N30,000.00 was donated to the Missionaries of Charity to help support the feeding and upkeep of the abandoned Children at the Home.

Again, on the 14th May, 2020, a sum of N50,000.00 was donated to the Bethesda Home for the Blind for the purchase of Face Masks and Hand Sanitizers for the safety of the students and workers of the Home.

Thirdly, on 26th May, 2020, we paid a brief visit to Mrs Moninuola Olariwaju Opebiyi, a widow and sight-impaired mother of two. It remains an unforgettable day for us. Mrs. Moninuola, who is a sachet-water seller, lost her husband in February this year. It is the meagre proceeds from this little trade that she uses to cater for her very young children. But with the present situation in the country and her being confined to the house, especially during the recent lock-down, her business virtually ground to a halt. Life therefore became so hard for the family that they had to resort to alms to survive. It was in this state that we learnt of her. We therefore wasted no time in joining others to quickly take some food-stuff and cash to her and her children.  It was a very touching encounter for us all!

We also wish to use this opportunity to call on anybody who is equally touched by her story to reach out to her directly and offer whatever support the person can afford. Her phone number is +234 813 044 6961.

The beneficiaries of the three BEF interventions were filled with enormous gratitude to the Foundation for the support given to them, especially at a time like this.
