Unveiling of the renovated, refurbished and restocked school library
May 18, 2018 was a very memorable day for the students and staff of Flora Azikiwe Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Neni, as the Bernadette Eyisi Foundation (BEF) handed over the newly refurbished and restocked school library to the Management of the school. The flagship project fully funded and executed by BEF is in line with the Founder’s vision of promoting qualitative education in the society by stimulating an aggressive reading culture among students.
Some of the special dignitaries at the occasion were the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano’s representative, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Azuka Omenuha; Chairman of the Occasion, Engr. Tony Mbaonu (Okaome-Neni); Very Rev. Fr. Mike Onwuka, Rev. Fr. Matin Anyabolu, Rev. Fr. Ignatius Ukoh, the Founder’s Husband, Chief Sir Simeon Eyisi (Ezeani-Omelora 1 of Neni); the Founder of BEF, Barr. Mrs. B.U. Eyisi; the Anaocha LG Chairman, Engr Ikeobi Ejiofor; Hon Azubuike Igboka; Hon Anayor Oforkagwu; Hon Ejesieme; Hon Chuks Echeta; Hon. Chime Okafor; Mrs. Joy Ulasi; Chairman Post Primary School Service Commission (a.k.a. Madam Quality Assurance) and a host of others.
To underscore their irrepressible joy, the students of Flora Azikiwe took to the stage to entertain guests with their welcome song, cultural dance and the news in Igbo. After a series of entertaining displays, the Commissioner was joined by other dignitaries as he unveiled the completed project and went round to survey the work done.
The Commissioner thanked the Foundation for its generosity in providing a conducive reading environment for the students. He then went ahead to admonish the students on the need to fully utilize the library.
Following in the footsteps of the Commissioner, the school principal expressed her gratitude to the Foundation for all its help and support to see that the students get quality education that would put them on the same pedestal with the students in the big towns and cities.
Finally, the Founder of BEF, Barr. (Mrs.) B.U. Eyisi, appreciated all that graced the occasion. She also reminded the students that the school library is a place where students can cultivate the basic knowledge that will make them competitive in society and strong enough to face life’s challenges.
